For Dealers

Dealer & Business Questions

Questions from garage owners, mobile mechanics, and automotive businesses considering joining the Platinum Tune network.

Do I need tuning experience to become a dealer?

No. You do not develop files and you do not need to understand tuning calibration. The process is read the file from the vehicle, upload it to your dealer portal, receive the completed tuned file back, and write it back to the vehicle. Platinum Tune handles all engineering in between. Many of our most active dealers started with no tuning background whatsoever.

What does it cost?

Platinum Tune operates on a pay-per-file basis. There is no subscription, no monthly fee, and no upfront commitment. You pay only for the files you submit. There is no minimum volume — you use the service at whatever frequency your work demands. Apply as a dealer to receive the full pricing breakdown for each service type.

What tools do I need to get started?

A compatible ECU reading and writing tool such as Flex, Autotuner, KESS3, Alientech, CMD Flash, or similar supported systems. If you already perform diagnostics, there is a strong chance you already own a compatible tool. Not sure if yours qualifies? Get in touch and we will confirm before you apply.

How long does a file take to come back?

Most standard Stage 1 jobs are turned around quickly — we aim to make sure you are never left waiting with a customer's car on the ramp. Turnaround can vary by service type, vehicle, and complexity. Specialist jobs such as Stage 3 or custom calibrations may take longer. Get in touch to discuss timings for specific service types.

What vehicles are supported?

A wide range of European and global manufacturers including BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Renault, Toyota, Land Rover, Jaguar, Skoda, SEAT, Porsche, Volvo, Nissan, Kia, Hyundai, and many more. Coverage also extends to vans, HGVs, commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment, and marine applications. Contact us to confirm a specific vehicle, ECU type, or model year.

How much can I make from this?

You set your own retail price for each tuning service. You pay the per-file fee to Platinum Tune, and every pound above that is your margin. A typical Stage 1 remap retails at £200–£400 depending on vehicle and market. Across 5–10 suitable vehicles per week, most active dealers add between £2,000 and £10,000+ per month to their existing income. The exact figure depends entirely on your volume and pricing decisions.

How quickly can I get started?

Most dealers are onboarded and processing their first jobs within 7 days of applying. After you submit your application, we review it and get in touch within one business day to discuss onboarding and share the full dealer pricing details.

Is there a minimum volume commitment?

No. There are no minimum monthly submissions and no lock-in commitments. Use the service when you have the work — whether that is one job per month or thirty. The model is designed to flex with your business, not restrict it.

What happens after I apply?

We review your application and get in touch within one business day. We will discuss how the service fits your workflow, share the full dealer pricing breakdown, and walk you through the onboarding process. There is no obligation at that stage — it is a conversation first.

What support do I get when I am starting out?

We work with you through your early jobs step by step — from your first file read to your first write-back. You are not expected to figure out a new process on your own, especially in the early stages. Fast communication is a priority because we understand your customer is waiting. As your confidence and volume grow, the need for that guidance diminishes naturally.

Tuning Questions
from Vehicle Owners

Questions about what ECU remapping does, what to expect, and how to think about it for your vehicle.

What does ECU remapping actually do?

Your engine's ECU (Engine Control Unit) runs the software that governs how your engine performs — controlling fuel injection, boost pressure, ignition timing, and more. Manufacturers often apply conservative limits to account for varying fuel quality, temperature ranges, and global market requirements. Remapping adjusts these parameters to unlock the engine's actual capability, resulting in more power, more torque, improved throttle response, and often better fuel efficiency — depending on the service selected.

Is remapping safe?

When done correctly by experienced tuners, remapping is a safe and well-established modification. Stage 1 remaps operate within the manufacturer's safety parameters for the engine — they extract the available headroom without pushing beyond what the hardware can handle. Quality is the primary concern at Platinum Tune. Files are developed with reliability and safety as non-negotiable requirements.

What power gains can I expect?

Gains vary significantly by vehicle, engine type, and service stage. Turbocharged engines typically respond most strongly — a Stage 1 remap can deliver increases of 15–30% BHP and torque on a standard turbo petrol or diesel. Naturally aspirated engines see smaller gains due to less available headroom. Economy tunes prioritise fuel efficiency over outright power. Your tuning provider can give you a specific indication for your vehicle.

Will remapping affect my manufacturer warranty?

This depends on your manufacturer, dealer, and the specific warranty terms. Some manufacturers can detect remapping during servicing, while others cannot. If your vehicle is still under a manufacturer warranty and this is a concern, it is worth researching your specific situation before proceeding. An independent warranty or aftermarket warranty may be unaffected — check your individual terms.

Can the remap be reversed to the original file?

In most cases, yes. The original file is retained at the point of reading, and the vehicle can be returned to its standard configuration by writing the original file back. This is not possible in every scenario — some ECUs have limitations — but for the majority of vehicles this is a straightforward option. Ask your tuning provider to confirm before proceeding.
